Why
did you become interested in fitness?
After college, I took a good look at myself and realized just
how unhealthy I had become. I was not overweight but very unfit.
Skinny fat girl. Gross! Years of eating junk and partying had
taken its toll. I was unhappy with my appearance and what most
people are surprised to find out is that I am also an insulin
dependent diabetic. I let years pass by living with a disease
that was so out of control. Lets just say death was knocking
at my door based on how poorly I took care of my disease.
I
had been an off again on again aerobics type of a girl but
never
consistent and never had I ever lifted a weight. On my 27th
birthday I gave myself the best
gift ever. . . personal training sessions . . . I began eating clean, lifting
weights and doing regular cardio and I never looked back. My disease is in
good control and I am thrilled. As a youth growing up with
diabetes, I never seemed
able to handle competitive sports and diabetes control. I missed out on a lot.
Today, I am better educated, technology has improved and now I have an avenue
to live out some athletic dreams through fitness that I never fulfilled in
my youth.
What
other physical activities do you enjoy to stay fit?
Lifting weights is my all time favorite. I’d much rather
lift than do cardio any day of the week. I also enjoy going to
gymnastics classes despite my late start. I love all water activities.
My family has a lake house, jet skis and a boat. Fun, fun, fun!
What
are your goals within the fitness industry?
I have actually achieved the one goal that I never thought possible.
I earned my pro card at the USA Fitness Championship in July.
I suppose now I will re-evaluate my goals as a professional athlete.
I’m kind of still in awe over the whole pro card thing.
